Which format should I use?

  • Chronological

Your jobs, most recent first, each with what you achieved. What recruiters and tracking systems expect.

Best for: Almost everyone, especially with steady experience in one field.

  • Functional (skills-based)

Grouped skills and achievements first, then a short list of jobs with dates.

Best for: Career changers, gaps in work history, or experience scattered across short roles.

  • Combination (hybrid)

Key achievements up front, then full job history with bullets.

Best for: Experienced people whose best results need to be seen before the timeline.

  • Academic CV

Education, research, publications and teaching. Allowed to run past one page.

Best for: Research, lecturing, PhD and postdoc applications, grants.

Questions

Are these templates free?
Yes. Every template is free to use with a JobFiend account. Your resume is written into the template and downloaded as a PDF.
Which templates are ATS-friendly?
The single-column designs marked ATS-friendly. Sidebars and colour bands look good to people but can confuse the software some employers use to read applications, so use those when you send your resume directly.
Resume or CV: which do I need?
In the US a resume is one or two pages; a CV is the long academic record. In the UK and most of the world, CV means the one or two page document. Every template here works for either, and the Academic template is for the long form.
Whose details are on the samples?
Nobody's. The people on the samples are made up so you can see how each design handles real-looking content. When you use a template, it holds only your own details and your own photo, if you add one.
